Bisphenols are tied to two of the most feared health outcomes for women: infertility and hormone-related cancer.
One Chemical Class, Two Major Threats
A 2026 review in Endocrine examined the role of bisphenols in female infertility and hormone-related cancers. Bisphenols, including BPA and its replacements (BPS, BPF), are endocrine disruptors that mimic estrogen. They interfere with ovarian function, egg quality, and implantation.
On the cancer side, bisphenols activate estrogen receptors in breast and uterine tissue. Chronic low-level exposure, the kind you get from everyday plastic use, can promote tumor growth over time.
Where Bisphenols Are Hiding
Canned food linings. Plastic food containers. Thermal receipt paper. Water bottles. Dental sealants. They're in products you touch and eat from every day. "BPA-free" products often contain BPS or BPF, which behave similarly in the body.
What You Can Do
Avoid canned foods or choose brands with BPA-free linings. Store food in glass or stainless steel. Decline paper receipts. Don't microwave in plastic. Skip the "BPA-free" marketing and go plastic-free when you can. Explore non-toxic home essentials for bisphenol-free alternatives.
