BPA and Its Replacements Are Destroying Male Fertility

BPA and its so-called "safer" replacements all damage male fertility. A new study mapped the molecular pathways, and the replacements are just as bad.

What the Study Found

A 2026 study using network toxicology, omics analysis, and molecular docking mapped both shared and compound-specific pathways through which BPA and its analogues cause male infertility. Multiple bisphenols damage sperm production, sperm quality, and reproductive hormone signaling through overlapping mechanisms.

The study found that BPA substitutes (BPS, BPF, and others) hit many of the same molecular targets as BPA. Switching from BPA to its replacements doesn't protect male fertility. It just changes which specific damage pathway gets activated.

Male Fertility Is Dropping

Sperm counts have fallen by over 50% in the last 50 years. Environmental chemicals like bisphenols are a leading suspect. This study adds more evidence to that case.

What You Can Do

Avoid all bisphenols, not just BPA. Use glass and stainless steel for food. Don't handle thermal receipts. Choose "bisphenol-free" products. If you're trying to conceive, reduce plastic exposure for both partners.
