Prenatal exposure to BPA and phthalates changes the ratio of fetal size to placental size, a marker of how well the pregnancy is going.
Fetal Growth Is Being Altered
A 2026 study in Ecotoxicol Environ Saf from the NYU Children's Health and Environment Study found associations between prenatal bisphenol and phthalate exposure and the fetoplacental ratio. This ratio reflects how efficiently the placenta supports fetal growth. Changes suggest the chemicals are disrupting the balance between placental function and fetal development.
What You Can Do
Reduce chemical exposure during pregnancy. Avoid plastic food containers, fragranced products, and canned foods. Browse non-toxic baby products for safer options.
