Dental Sealants Spike BPA Levels in Kids

Kids who get dental sealants have spiking BPA levels in their body afterward. The protective coating dentists put on children's teeth is leaching BPA directly into their mouths.
What the Study Found
A 2026 prospective cohort study performed BPA biomonitoring in schoolchildren after dental sealant placement. BPA levels in the children's bodies increased measurably after the dental procedure, confirming that dental sealants are a direct source of BPA exposure.
Dental sealants are applied to millions of children every year to prevent cavities. Parents are told it's protective. Nobody mentions the BPA.
What You Can Do
Ask your child's dentist about BPA-free sealant materials. They exist. If your child already has sealants, the BPA release is highest right after placement and decreases over time. Rinsing the mouth immediately after placement may help reduce initial exposure.
