Women exposed to multiple types of endocrine-disrupting chemicals at once have a higher risk of developing polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Multi-Chemical Exposure and PCOS
A 2026 study in Environ Pollut found that hormonal perturbations induced by multiple categories of endocrine disruptors increase PCOS risk. Not just one type of chemical. The combination of PFAS, phthalates, BPA, pesticides, and heavy metals, all at once, compounds the hormone disruption.
PCOS affects up to 1 in 10 women and is a leading cause of infertility. It involves insulin resistance, excess androgens, and disrupted ovulation. Environmental chemicals that mimic or block hormones can trigger or worsen all of these features.
What You Can Do
Reduce exposure to all endocrine disruptors, not just one category. Filter your water. Avoid plastics for food. Go fragrance-free. Eat organic when possible. Browse non-toxic home essentials for a cleaner daily routine.
