A mixture of common food chemicals given to pregnant rabbits altered how their babies and placentas developed. The chemical cocktail mirrored what French mothers are actually exposed to.
Real-World Chemical Mixtures, Real Damage
A 2026 study in Environ Int exposed pregnant rabbits to a mixture of short half-life food chemicals based on data from a French mother-child cohort. The mixture, which mimicked real human dietary exposure, altered fetoplacental development.
These chemicals individually have short half-lives (the body eliminates them quickly). But constant daily exposure through food means levels never drop to zero.
What You Can Do
Eat whole, unprocessed foods during pregnancy. Avoid food in plastic packaging. Cook at home. Browse non-toxic kitchen alternatives for safer food prep.
