A group of internal medicine doctors is sounding the alarm: glyphosate, the world's most used herbicide, is linked to a long list of chronic diseases.
What Glyphosate Does to Your Body
Glyphosate detection in humans has been associated with all-cause mortality, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver disease, and COPD, according to a 2026 review in Intern Emerg Med.
Animal studies show that long-term intake of glyphosate through drinking water, even at very low levels, increases cancer risk in a dose-dependent manner. More exposure means more cancer. There's no safe floor.
It's in Nearly Everything
Glyphosate is sprayed on wheat, oats, corn, soy, and many other crops. It's used as a drying agent before harvest, meaning residues are especially high on grain products. It shows up in bread, cereal, beer, and even honey.
The review calls on doctors to treat glyphosate exposure as a real health risk, not just an environmental issue.
What You Can Do
Buy organic grains and cereals. Choose organic oats specifically, since conventional oats are often sprayed with glyphosate right before harvest. Filter your water. And explore non-toxic kitchen alternatives for cleaner food prep and storage.
