Your screens are shedding chemicals into your house dust. Liquid crystal monomers (LCMs) from TVs, phones, and monitors are a new indoor pollutant.
Electronics Contaminating Indoor Dust
A 2026 study in Environ Res found elevated levels of liquid crystal monomers in indoor dust across urban areas in China. LCMs are chemicals used in LCD screens: televisions, computer monitors, tablets, and smartphones. They're released into indoor air and settle in dust.
These are emerging contaminants. Most people have never heard of them. But given how many screens fill modern homes, exposure levels are high and climbing.
What You Can Do
Dust your home regularly with damp cloths. Use HEPA air purifiers. Ventilate rooms with lots of electronics. Wash your hands after extended screen use. Browse non-toxic home essentials to keep your indoor environment cleaner.
