Microplastics are entering your drinking water supply, especially if you live near industrial sites.
From Source to Tap
A 2026 study in J Hazard Mater tracked microplastics through a drinking water supply system near industrial facilities. They found microplastics at various points along the system, from source water through treatment to the tap. Industrial proximity increased contamination levels.
Water treatment removes some microplastics but not all. Smaller particles, especially nanoplastics, can pass through conventional treatment processes.
What You Can Do
Install a quality water filter at home (reverse osmosis or activated carbon). If you live near industrial areas, testing your water is especially worthwhile. Browse non-toxic home essentials for water filtration options.
