Researchers just confirmed that microplastics are present in human amniotic fluid. A 2026 study published in NanoImpact analyzed samples using a rigorous plastic-free protocol and found 136 particles across every single sample tested.
The study identified common polymers like polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polypropylene (PP), and polycarbonate (PC). These aren't just environmental contaminants floating in the air. They are accumulating in the human reproductive system, including both menstrual blood and the fluid surrounding a developing fetus.
You cannot control the air you breathe, but you can control what you bring into your house. Every plastic container, synthetic cutting board, and coated kitchen tool is a potential source of the fibers and fragments identified in this research. Stop letting your kitchenware shed plastic into your meals. It is time to audit your space and switch to non-toxic home alternatives that don't leach particles into your life.
