Micro and Nanoplastics Are Attacking Your Thyroid

Micro and nanoplastics are causing thyroid cells to explode through pyroptosis, an inflammatory form of cell death. The result: thyroid toxicity and potential thyroid disease.
What the Study Found
A 2026 study found that micro and nanoplastics induce thyroid follicular cell pyroptosis by activating the NF-κB signaling pathway. Pyroptosis is an inflammatory cell death that damages surrounding tissue and triggers a chronic inflammatory response.
Thyroid disease is on the rise, and environmental factors like microplastics may be contributing. Your thyroid controls metabolism, energy, mood, and development. Plastic-induced damage can throw all of these off.
What You Can Do
Reduce microplastic exposure. Filter water. Avoid plastic food containers. Use HEPA air purifiers. Get your thyroid checked regularly.
