The data on PFAS and your thyroid
A 2026 study published in Environmental Health Perspectives by researchers at the National Cancer Institute examined the link between PFAS exposure and thyroid health in 3,389 participants. While the study found an inverse association between certain PFAS like PFOA and thyroid cancer risk, it confirmed a significant, positive association between PFOA and circulating thyroxine levels. You can read the full study here.
This matters because PFOA and PFOS are endocrine disruptors. Even if this specific study didn't find a direct link to increased cancer rates in this cohort, it proves these chemicals are actively altering your hormone production. When your body is flooded with synthetic compounds that mimic or interfere with your natural hormones, your thyroid has to work overtime.
How to limit your exposure
You cannot avoid every synthetic chemical in the modern world, but you can control what you bring into your home. PFAS are commonly found in nonstick pans, waterproof fabrics, and food packaging. Start by auditing your kitchenware and replacing items that rely on chemical coatings. We have curated a selection of non-toxic home alternatives that allow you to manage your household without the constant worry of chemical leaching. Small swaps are the most effective way to reduce your total toxic load.
