PFAS Breaks Your Liver's Mitochondria Faster Than Rules Can Keep Up

PFAS is destroying the mitochondria in your liver cells, and government regulations are years behind the science.
What the Review Found
A 2026 review in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences is bluntly titled: "Forever Chemicals, Finite Defenses." It lays out how PFAS burdens the liver, breaks mitochondria, and outpaces modern regulation.
PFAS accumulates in the liver and damages mitochondria, the organelles that produce energy for every cell function. When liver mitochondria fail, the organ can't process fats, clear toxins, or regulate metabolism properly. The result: fatty liver disease, inflammation, and eventually liver failure.
Regulations Can't Keep Up
There are thousands of PFAS compounds. Regulators test and restrict them one at a time. By the time one gets banned, the industry has already switched to another. The review argues that this chemical-by-chemical approach is failing.
What You Can Do
Don't wait for regulations. Filter your water now. Avoid all PFAS-treated products: nonstick pans, stain-resistant fabrics, waterproof clothing, and food packaging.
