PFAS and Phthalates Are Quietly Damaging Your Kidneys

Your kidneys filter your blood. PFAS and phthalates are making them worse at it.
Chemical Exposure Linked to Kidney Decline
A 2026 study in Food Chem Toxicol analyzed data from the U.S. population and found that exposure to PFAS and phthalate metabolites is associated with low estimated glomerular filtration rates (eGFR). A low eGFR means your kidneys aren't filtering blood efficiently. It's a marker for chronic kidney disease.
PFAS come from nonstick cookware, food packaging, and contaminated water. Phthalates come from plastics, fragrances, and personal care products. Both accumulate in the body. Both are now linked to kidney damage.
Why Your Kidneys Are Vulnerable
Your kidneys process everything in your blood. They're the body's filtration system. When chemicals like PFAS and phthalates circulate through them constantly, the damage adds up. Reduced kidney function is slow and silent. Most people don't know it's happening until it's advanced.
What You Can Do
Filter your drinking water. Avoid nonstick cookware. Choose fragrance-free personal care products. Store food in glass, not plastic. Explore non-toxic home essentials to reduce your daily chemical load on your kidneys.
