PFOS doesn't just damage your liver. It damages your liver, which disrupts your gut, which impairs your sperm production. It's a three-organ chain reaction.
What the Study Found
A 2026 study discovered that PFOS impairs spermatogenesis through the liver-gut microbiota-testis axis. PFOS disrupts chenodeoxycholic acid metabolism in the liver, which alters gut bacteria, which sends signals that damage the testes and reduce sperm production.
Male fertility is declining worldwide. PFOS is one of the most persistent PFAS chemicals and is found in virtually everyone's blood. This study reveals a mechanism that connects PFOS to infertility through multiple organ systems.
What You Can Do
Filter water. Avoid PFAS-treated products. Support liver and gut health with whole foods. If experiencing fertility problems, discuss PFAS exposure with your doctor.
