Phthalates damage children's brain development at the molecular level. A new study mapped exactly how.

How Phthalates Attack the Developing Brain

A 2026 study in J Biochem Mol Toxicol used network toxicology and molecular docking to identify the molecular mechanisms and targets behind phthalate-induced neurodevelopmental disorders. The study mapped how phthalates interfere with brain signaling pathways during critical development windows.

Phthalates are in everything: plastics, personal care products, flooring, and processed food packaging. Children are exposed constantly, and their developing brains are the most vulnerable target.

What You Can Do

Avoid phthalate sources for your kids: skip fragranced products, don't use plastic for food, choose PVC-free toys. Browse non-toxic baby products for phthalate-free options.
