Polystyrene microplastics damage both your heart and lungs simultaneously. One plastic. Two vital organs. Both suffering.

What the Study Found

A 2026 study exposed mice to polystyrene microplastics and found damage to both cardiac and pulmonary tissue. The microplastics altered the microenvironment of both organs. Taurine supplementation offered some protection, suggesting the damage pathway involves oxidative stress that taurine can counteract.

Polystyrene is in food trays, cups, insulation, and packing materials. You eat, drink, and breathe it daily.

What You Can Do

Avoid polystyrene food containers. Never heat food in styrofoam. Use reusable glass and steel containers. Consider taurine-rich foods (meat, fish, dairy) or talk to your doctor about supplementation.
