Are aluminum cans safe to drink sparkling water from daily?

Based on 1 peer-reviewed studykitchen
Verdict: Use Caution

Not great. Even sparkling water can pull BPA out of can liners, and daily cans stack up.

What's actually in it

Aluminum cans are lined with a thin epoxy coating, almost always made from bisphenol A (BPA) or a close cousin. Carbonated water is slightly acidic (carbonic acid), which speeds BPA migration from the liner. A can a day means BPA reaching the blood and urine every day.

BPA is an endocrine disruptor that also constricts blood vessels.

What the research says

A 2025 trial in Sci Rep had the same volunteers drink the same drink from cans, PET bottles, and glass. After the can version, urinary BPA jumped and blood pressure rose measurably within hours. Glass had the smallest bump.

If you love sparkling water, a home carbonator (SodaStream style) with filtered tap water in a glass or BPA-free bottle is the cleanest choice. Glass bottles of sparkling water also skip the liner.
