What's actually in it

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are synthetic chemicals used in nonstick and water-resistant coatings. They don't break down in the environment or in your body. Once PFAS get in, they build up over time.

Common kitchen sources include nonstick pans, some food wrappers, microwave popcorn bags, and pizza boxes. Heating nonstick surfaces above 260C (500F) causes faster breakdown.
