Are plastic storage bags safe to use for leftovers?
No. BPA acts as a hormone disruptor even at low doses. Avoid plastic food containers, especially for hot or acidic food.
What's actually in it
BPA (bisphenol A) is a chemical used to harden polycarbonate plastics and line metal cans. It acts like estrogen in the body, which is why it's called an endocrine disruptor. BPA leaches out of plastic when it's heated, scratched, or comes into contact with acidic foods.
Many products labeled "BPA-free" use BPS or BPF instead. Research shows these alternatives behave similarly to BPA in the body.
