Are soft plastic bath toys safe for children under two?
Yes. Phthalates leach from flexible plastics. Avoid soft plastic food contact items.
What's actually in it
Phthalates are plasticizers that make PVC and other plastics soft and flexible. They're found in vinyl products, food packaging, personal care items, and soft plastic toys.
Phthalates leach out of plastic over time, especially under heat or pressure. They are detected in nearly everyone's urine when tested, and they act as endocrine disruptors.
