Can bisphenol exposure during pregnancy affect your reproductive and thyroid hormones?

Based on 1 peer-reviewed studybaby
Verdict: Some Concern

Some Concern

What's actually in it

Bisphenols (BPA, BPS, BPF) from food cans, plastic containers, and receipt paper enter pregnant women's bodies daily. These chemicals mimic estrogen and can throw off the delicate hormonal balance needed for a healthy pregnancy. Both reproductive hormones (estrogen, progesterone) and thyroid hormones (T3, T4) are affected.

What the research says

A 2026 study in Arch Med Res measured bisphenol exposure levels in pregnant women and tested their reproductive and thyroid hormone levels. The researchers found that higher bisphenol exposure was linked to disrupted levels of both reproductive and thyroid hormones.

Thyroid hormones control fetal brain development. Reproductive hormones maintain the pregnancy itself. Disrupting both at once creates a double threat to both mother and baby.

During pregnancy, avoid all bisphenol sources: use glass containers, decline receipts, avoid canned food, and choose BPA-free and BPS-free products.
