Do PFAS-coated baking sheets contaminate food?
Not ideal. PFAS exposure from coated cookware is real. Switching to stainless steel or cast iron removes the risk.
What's actually in it
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of thousands of chemicals used to make nonstick surfaces, grease-resistant food packaging, and stain-repellent coatings. They are called "forever chemicals" because they don't break down in the environment or in the body.
PFOA and PFOS, the most studied PFAS, have been phased out in the US. But replacements like GenX and PFBS are now being used, and early evidence suggests they have similar problems.
