Do scented candles release toxic VOCs into indoor air?
Ventilate well. VOCs from household products are a real indoor air quality issue, especially for children.
What's actually in it
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are chemicals that evaporate at room temperature and become part of indoor air. Household sources include paint, cleaning products, air fresheners, new furniture, flooring, and adhesives.
Many VOCs are irritants. Some, like benzene and formaldehyde, are carcinogens. Indoor concentrations can be 2 to 5 times higher than outdoor air, especially in sealed modern homes.
