Kids are more vulnerable per pound than adults. Brand testing data show big swings between premium peanut butter brands and budget store-brand jars.

Stick to peanut butter from brands with tested-low aflatoxin programs: Smucker's Natural, Crazy Richard's, Once Again, Santa Cruz Organic, Justin's. Skip cheap unbranded peanuts and bagged corn snacks from open-air markets. Store nuts and grains in a cool, dry pantry. Toss anything that smells musty.
