Is it safe to use store-bought diaper rash cream with parabens?
No. Parabens absorb through broken skin faster than intact skin, and diaper rash means broken skin.
What's actually in it
Many diaper rash creams contain parabens as preservatives. The affected skin is often red and raw, meaning the skin barrier is compromised. Chemicals absorb much faster through broken skin than intact skin.
What the research says
A 2025 ENVIRONAGE study in Environ Res linked parabens in kids to altered hunger hormones. A 2025 mouse study tied propylparaben in pregnancy to reduced ovarian reserve across generations.
Look for zinc oxide cream with no parabens (simple Desitin "Daily Defense" or similar) or a zinc-oxide-and-shea-butter cream with a short ingredient list.
