Can PFAS exposure raise heart risk if you have prediabetes?

Based on 2 peer-reviewed studieskitchen
Verdict: Some Concern

Yes, some PFAS were linked with higher heart risk in adults with prediabetes.

What is actually in it

PFAS are long-lasting chemicals used to resist oil, water, and stains. They can be found in some food packaging and non-stick cookware.

Prediabetes already means your heart needs extra care. PFAS exposure does not mean heart disease is certain. It is one more exposure you can lower.

What the research says

A 2026 study in J Am Heart Assoc followed adults with prediabetes for about 21 years. Some PFAS were linked with a higher risk of major heart events and heart-related death.

The study did not prove PFAS caused diabetes. It does support lowering PFAS when you can. Choose stainless steel or glass for everyday cooking and food storage, especially when a non-stick pan is scratched or worn.
