Is it safe to use soft silicone baby feeding spoons at high temperatures?
Based on 1 peer-reviewed studybaby
Verdict: Safer
For warm food yes. For hot-out-of-the-pot food, let it cool first.
What's actually in it
Platinum-grade silicone baby spoons are stable up to around 230°C. Baby food is usually warm, not hot. At feeding temperature, siloxane release is minimal.
What the research says
A 2025 study in J Hazard Mater measured D4, D5, and D6 release from silicone across temperatures. Feeding-temperature release was far smaller than oven-temperature release.
Let food cool from cooking temperature before using a silicone spoon. For stirring in a hot pot, use stainless steel or wood, then serve with silicone.
