Based on 1 peer-reviewed studybaby
Verdict: Use Caution

Use caution with repeated topical lavender oil on kids. A 2007 N Engl J Med report linked repeated topical lavender and tea tree oil exposure with prepubertal gynecomastia in 3 boys, and symptoms resolved after the products were stopped.

Short answer: Use caution. Lavender oil is concentrated fragrance chemistry, not a basic moisturizer. Occasional scent exposure is different from repeated leave-on use on children.

What parents can do

Skip lavender oil in daily lotions, hair products, and chest rubs for kids. If a wash-off product uses lavender fragrance, treat it as optional, not essential.

The practical answer

For daily skin care, choose simple fragrance-free basics first. Kids do not need essential oils for clean skin, soft hair, or a calm bedtime routine.
